Current Mood: A little ticked off. And here's why: I'm bothered by the fact that so many people still use racial slurs quite frequently in their everyday lives, and that they use them ever so nonchalantly, as you'll soon see...
Here's the back story: I was checking my site stats earlier, when I noticed that someone had found their way here via a Google search. Now, while that's not at all out of the ordinary for this blog, the search term they used most certainly is. It's a racial slur...both derogatory and stereotypical.
The Racial Slur - Dot What?
Yessiree, someone was searching on Google for a Seinfeld character, and the search term they used was (and I quote), "DOT HEAD FROM SEINFELD." Yes, my friends, some dilrod was actually searching Google for that. How lazy, pathetic and insensitive can one be?
Dot head? Come on, that's just so utterly lame. What a pudding head this person must be. Anyway, here's the screenshot I took of the page so you can actually see it for yourself. Just click the image to enlarge it.
As you can see, this narrow-minded nitwit actually used those sad words when searching for a Seinfeld character. And not only that, but he/she was "SHOUTING" in the search box as well. Methinks someone needs a really good smack! Anyway, the whole thing just kinda set me off, which of course made me want to blog about it.
As for the search itself, there were 195,000 results, and this blog happened to come up in both the #1 and #2 spots. But there are no racial slurs anywhere on here! No way. Google just ranked me there, I suppose, because of the "dot" in the Aaron Cook dot Com blog title, and because I've mentioned Seinfeld here a couple of times.
Babu Bhatt - The Seinfeld Character
Based on my knowledge of Seinfeld, and of the Seinfeld characters themselves (Seinfeld freak alert!), I'm simply going to assume that this person was searching for the Pakistani character named Babu Bhatt, which was played by the very talented Brian George.
The Babu character is probably best known for waving his finger, while saying to Jerry Seinfeld, "You bad man! You very very bad man!" As seen here in this DVD screenshot. This is Seinfeld season 7, episode #24, at the 19:54 mark.
This episode was titled "The Café" and it was the first actual appearance of Babu Bhatt. He would later appear again in "The Visa" (season 4) and "The Finale" (season 9).
Season 9 was the final season of Seinfeld. "The Finale" was the name given to the final two episodes of Seinfeld, which aired on May 14, 1998 to an audience of over 76 million people.
Yeah, so, that's that. I suppose perhaps I shouldn't get so irritated over things like this. But c'mon, it's just plain pedestrian. And of all the words to use when searching for a TV character, why choose to use those when there are so many other pertinent words available from which to choose?
Share Your Doozies With Everyone!
Anyway, I'm curious. What are your thoughts on this subject? And what odd search terms have landed people on your blog? I know I've seen some "real doozies" in my time, but this is the first racial slur that has landed someone here.
Yeah that's right Aaron! F those racist imbeciles. With a big and mighty F!

Many thanks Diego. There's no room for racism here, that's for sure! In addition, there's no room for bĂȘtise or folly, either!

Hey Aaron, what the hell are you doing up so late! :P
ReplyDeleteTom
BTW, loved that post. Nailed it!
Hi Tom!
ReplyDeleteInsomnia as usual, my friend. What can I say! I don't get tired, and I can't ever sleep. So what else is new.
I lay down, yet all I have is visions of sugar plums dancing in my head!
Well, that...and blogs. And blog posts, and blog comments! And...well, you get the picture. ;)
Shine on,
Aaron
PS: Thanks a million buddy! Sometimes it's nice to write with a hammer. ;)
So what's wrong with using dot head for your search? Or camel jockey or raghead?
ReplyDeleteOur dear anonymous,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I believe that you are indeed totally misguided. And the fact that you chose to post such a shortsighted comment completely anonymously I think proves that. In my opinion, only baseless cowards operate that way.
As for the other racial slurs you so ignobly plopped down, I only have this to say...what a shame. Hopefully some day you'll be able to work your way out your ignorance. I certainly hope that you do.
Whatever asshole!!! So your saying that you like these foriners? Their stealing our money every single day ain't they!! How the hell can you be American and still even say this?

ReplyDeleteMister anonimus,
I`m sure you beare one or all of bellow type :
- yet you`re barelly 20 y old, you don`t remember where is the school and why you was going there;
- you are extremist, counting on at least 216555465421662 points of view;
- you are so proud to be american that you forget you are NOT american. Americans on US are ONLY native indians. Starting this point on, you and your ancestors are "foriner" too (I never learned english, yet is foreigner .. or aliens .. you are stil IRC fan, isn`t it ? :-P ).
So, YOUR FATHER is the one start stealing others`s money, and wrong used those money to educate you to rage against what he done ...
Valentin - As always, very well said!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing to me that your first language is not English; you make such valid, potent and reliable points each and every time you comment.
I love it. Keep it up, my friend! Your words would be torment for anyone against you. :)
Shine on,
Aaron
Hello again anonymous. First of all, your spelling is way, WAY off!
ReplyDeleteNow, to answer those questions of yours:
l. Sure, why not?
2. No, that is highly incorrect.
3. Easy.
Any more questions? Give me a break. Can't you see how destructive and ridiculous racist views are? I think it's time to grow up and treat people equally.
I am not exactly surprised that people are racist. May be the numbers have gone down and the attitude has changed, but there are a few nutjobs such as this one everywhere
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right Vijay!
ReplyDeleteIf you ever forget that there are racist people still in the world (in droves) just play Halo online for 5 minutes. Geez.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Here they play a game involving the Covenant, a militaristic and theocratic alliance of alien races, yet they cannot stand the races of their own species. Well, that's earth for ya! :P
ReplyDeleteShine on,
Aaron
It took me quite a while to realize what the heck dot head even meant. I guess I'm not up on all the derogatory terms. As each wave of immigrants come to the US, each is labeled with a non flattering term. You'd think after a while it would get old, but apparently we never learn. Every country is only comfortable with their own kind, but we need to get over ourselves and be tolerant. Lack of tolerance leads to destruction.
ReplyDeleteVery well said!
ReplyDelete"You'd think after a while it would get old, but apparently we never learn."
-Indeed. It's a good indicator to the fact there are a lot of unintelligent people inhabiting this country and this earth.
"...we need to get over ourselves and be tolerant. Lack of tolerance leads to destruction."
-It most certainly does! And our entire human history is direct proof of that.
Anyway, thanks so much for stopping by. Wish I knew who you were. Your comment is very much appreciated.

Aaron
I have to say that you have gained my utmost respect from this post. Racism is one of those things in life that truly make me sick. I live in the heart of a racist community and it has always been tough for me. I had a job once selling cars during the LA race riots. Five big black guys who happened to be good friends of mine told me if a riot started where we were they would hide me in the back to protect me. They said they knew I was not racist and they would never let me get hurt. That was a feeling I could never describe to anyone. It made me feel so special knowing that I had let these guys know just through being friends the kind of person I am. Racism = ignorance. I can't change the world, but I can certainly not be a racist idiot:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bobby. That means the world to me.
ReplyDeleteYes, racism does equal ignorance. There are no two ways about it. Those who practice it are truly deficient in their mental faculties.
The fact is, racism is not instinctual. Not at all. It's a learned a learned behavior, a learned thought process. And it's learned via a severe lack of facts, misguided agendas. And unfortunately, it's mostly learned by innocent young children from their dipshit parents. And then they pass it on themselves. Sad very sad.
Racists simply don't have the complete body of facts, nor the willingness to entertain them even if they did. Close-minded, brainwashed buffoons they are. And that's putting it lightly.
Shine on,
Aaron
You know, I have been treated with prejudice many times by several races. I see them the same as a white guy doing the same thing. I never let it change me. Really, there are very few subjects more important. That's why I have friends from every country. I have learned that we are all way more alike than we are different. I owe that to blogging:)
ReplyDelete"I have learned that we are all way more alike than we are different."
ReplyDelete-Very true!
"I owe that to blogging:)"
-Ain't blogging the best thing since sliced bread. :)
It's hard to bring down the numbers. after all everyone can't be educated, they have to learn by them self that they are committing SIN
ReplyDeleteThat's right Benedict. And unfortunately, there will always be idiots.

Aaron
