Friday Fun Canceled - Wal-Mart Sucks Instead

Well, I had originally planned to post a funny video here since it's Friday and Fridays are for fun, but that was until I came across this story:

Man Not Moving In Wal-Mart Standoff

"Once the dynamite goes in the ground, it's staying there."

Hmmm, then that would make Wal-Mart guilty of willing indifference (requiring not an intent to harm, but a failure to act appropriately in light of a known or obvious risk).

Story Update...

So what did Wal-Mart do? What every large corporation seemingly loves to do these days...they took the poor guy and his family to court. And now a judge has ordered him off of his OWN property!

Just before noon on Thursday a Marion County sheriff’s deputy served David and Penny McCarty with a civil summons on behalf of Wal-Mart and a restraining order from their own property.

A restraining order from your own property? Wow, isn't that nice. Is is just me or does this country get more and more full of shit every?!

Anyway, maybe later I'll post the funny stuff I had originally intended to post for Friday Fun. That is, if my blood pressure goes down. :P But right now I'm steaming. I normally don't rant on here (in fact, this is the only other time I have), but when it comes to stuff like this I have very little patience. And I just can't sit idly by and keep my mouth shut about it either.

  1. Always hated Walmart. Always will. They're scum.

  2. That's not right. I know Wal-mart has been the "big bad" for years with their tearing into town and knocking out all the mom and pop shops. But to have a judge order you from your own property is insane and a sign the judge is not operating on all cylinders.

  3. @Tim: Wouldn't say I disagree at all Tim.

@Mark: I agree Mark. This story really pisses me off in a big way - and on so many levels.

It's another sobering reminder that corporations and money are running America, not the people.

  4. I went to a Walmart for the first time in a while the other day and let me tell you, I wish I hadn't.

  6. "Article 17
Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others.
No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property. "

Maybe someone should print this and stick it in judge`s window ...

HERE is an intersting video, I think that judge was among the questioned peoples ...

  8. That poor man! A restraining order on your own property? I find that difficult to believe; however, I'm sure it is true. Things like this amaze me.

This guy lives just south of me. I live in the Cincinnati, Ohio Area. I'm surprised I didn't hear about this. Lots of people dislike Walmart in the TriState.

My boyfriend hates Walmart. I went there for something a while back (I think it was toothpaste) and he got on his soapbox for over an hour.

  9. I wonder how much WalMart had to pay off that judge for him to tell those people to get off their own property. That's just insane!

  10. @Erina: I know, it's utterly ridiculous. It seems that more and more people hate Wal-Mart every day. And personally, I'm fine with that. I cant' stand the place either. And don't even get me started on how they treat their employees! I know a couple people who had worked there, and they were treated quite awfully.

@Antibarbie: That's a good question, though I doubt he was paid off. It's generally a case of big corporate attorneys being extremely capable of outgunning smaller attorneys. They're just much more experienced and knowledgeable in the field. They know ALL the loopholes and such, whereas, your average attorney doesn't.

Corporate attorneys make it to the top because they're the best at what they do, and they're very well practiced in it. So unless one has the bucks to hire an excellent and successful attorney on their own, there's often little chance of winning. And sadly, the law doesn't always uphold what's right and what's moral.

This was probably an open shut case from the start. Unfortunately, the outcome is not 100% right.

  11. I know he likely wasn't paid off, I was just being sarcastic. You don't need to pay people off when you have a gang of lawyers that are better then the people you are up against. Little guy loses out, typical here in the states.

  12. @Antibarbie: You're exactly right. And I knew you were being sarcastic. I just felt the need to get on my soapbox about the whole thing. :P

Each day I become more and more unimpressed with this country. It seems to go downhill continually, and at an ever-increasing rate. Scary.

Anyway, thanks for visiting and taking the time to comment! :)

  13. I don't shop there and never will. In America, you really never truly own anything, not even your own home!

America is not for the people, it is for the money. This makes me feel ashamed to live here.

  14. I totally agree Bobby. And it's pretty sad when you stop and think about it. Heck, if it weren't for good folks like you, I'd have been gone a long time ago! ;)

So let's do our best to make things better every chance we get. It can only help.
